INTRODUCTION

Abstract

First the safety assessments made by Fortum due to Fukushima accident are discussed. These
include the EU stress test based on specifications defined by the European Nuclear Safety
Regulators Group. In addition, Finnish Ministry of the employment and the economy has
requested assessment, how Loviisa NPP can cope with natural events and loss of electrical
power. As a continuation of Fortum’s assessment to the ministry, Finnish Radiation and Nuclear
Safety Authority has sent a request for action plan to further improve the resilience of Loviisa
NPP against natural events and loss of electrical power. All these assessments have been
submitted to the authority in 2011. The methodology of the assessments is to use scenarios that
have been defined in a deterministic way. Multiple scenarios with different failure assumptions
are included.
